This was a birthday gift for my friend Anna, who is a big fan of cardinals and tea. The only chart change (that I can remember) is using gold very fine braid for backstitching the yellow bits, and converting a few whole stitches to half stitches.

To make a stiff ornament, I used leftover pieces of mat board (nice and thin and more pH-neutral than regular cardboard) and cut them into matching ovals. I glued a thin layer of batting on each board before placing the cross stitch/backing fabric over them. Finally I sewed the cord and the front and back together at the same time using a basic whip stitch.
