This is another quickie. I thought the free Zodiac designs from cross-stitching.com were very nice so I decided to stitch up Aquarius for my mom. Note: This is no longer available as a freebie at Cross-Stitching.
I had a set of 4 coasters that I bought years ago, and decided it was time I put them to use, so I chose this design because of the size. (I want to stitch Leo, Cancer, and Scorpio for the other three. Any bets on how many years it will be until I finish the set?) Of course, once I finished the stitching, my mom protested that it was much too nice for a coaster, and can't I get a nice frame for it? I showed her how the coaster was designed and assured her that the piece would not get damaged even by her hot, drippy tea cups. I didn't like the cardboard mount included with the kit, so I cut a square piece of matboard which is firmer, whiter, and (I think) acid-free. I used PH-balanced masking tape to attach the piece to the matboard, and if the stitching somehow managed to get dirty I could easily remove it, wash it again, and put it back in.
The chart was designed in Anchor, and the DMC conversion was awful. I decided to do my own conversion and lighten up the blues as well. Here is my list of DMC substitutes (theirs-mine):
- 800 - 3756
- 799 - 800
- 792 - 799
- 820 - 797
- 3340 - Needle Necessities NN161 (Fool's Gold)
The entire chart is larger with more border and the word "AQUARIUS." I trimmed it down so it would fit in the coaster.
